Jahrhundert bezeugtes Erbwort aus mittelhochdeutsch snurren ^(→ gmh) „brummen, rauschen, sausen (vor allem von Insekten und Katzen)“ (vergleiche mittelniederdeutsch snorren ^(→ gml), snurren ^(→ gml) „brummen, schwirren, surren“, niederländisch snorren ^(→ nl)), welches ablautend neben »schnarren« steht und wie »schnarchen« zu der unter »nörgeln« aufgeführten lautnachahmenden (nicht belegbaren, aber rekonstruierten) indoeuropäischen Wurzel *(s)ner-, *(s)nur- „knurren, murren“ gehört. Bedeutung 3 ist eine Lautvariante zu schnorren in Bedeutung 3, die in der schweizerischen Lexikographie des frühen 20. Jahrhundert noch kaum bezeugt ist und offenbar erst in jüngerer Zeit die heutige weite Verbreitung gefunden hat.",
