Interjection

IPA: [ˈɡojdə] Forms: го́йда [canonical], gójda [romanization]
Etymology: Originally a variant spelling of Russian айда (ajda), also compare Ukrainian гайда (hajda). Originally the word was supposed to have stress on the second syllable, but was later reanalyzed as having stress on the initial syllable. Ultimately from a Turkic language; compare Ottoman Turkish هایده (hayde). The word is attested in foreign sources since XVI century. First appears in Russian literature around 19th century, possibly a learnt borrowing from the term in the foreign source. The word was then reborrowed into spoken language with a positive meaning and used in mostly humorous contexts.
