"etymology_text": "First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 벌에〮 (Yale: pèlGéy), from immediately pre-Middle Korean *pèlkéy; the majority of modern dialects still preserve the */-k-/.\nBeyond the written record, both Middle Korean and all modern dialects have at least two words meaning \"bug\": a form descended from *pèlkéy, and another form descended from *pèlkècí > Middle Korean 벌어지〮 (pèlGècí) > Modern Seoul 버러지 (beoreoji). Both *pèlkéy and *pèlkècí probably represent differently suffixed forms of the same ancestral root.\nNot related to 벌 (beol, “bee”), although some minor dialects (not the mainstream in any province) have conflated the two words.",

"etymology_text": "First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 벌에〮 (Yale: pèlGéy), from immediately pre-Middle Korean *pèlkéy; the majority of modern dialects still preserve the */-k-/.\nBeyond the written record, both Middle Korean and all modern dialects have at least two words meaning \"bug\": a form descended from *pèlkéy, and another form descended from *pèlkècí > Middle Korean 벌어지〮 (pèlGècí) > Modern Seoul 버러지 (beoreoji). Both *pèlkéy and *pèlkècí probably represent differently suffixed forms of the same ancestral root.\nNot related to 벌 (beol, “bee”), although some minor dialects (not the mainstream in any province) have conflated the two words.",
