Noun

IPA: /koˈɾoi̯.ðo/
Etymology: From an unattested earlier *κουρόγιδο (*kourógido), itself from κουρεύω (kourévo, “cut hair”) + γίδι (gídi, “young goat”), probably in reference to Byzantine soldiers who were shaved with a goat's shears. An alternative theory takes *κουρόγιδο (*kourógido) as a borrowing from Latin corrideo (“to laugh together or aloud”).
