"отава" meaning in Bulgarian

Noun

IPA: [oˈtavɐ], [ˈɔtɐvɐ]
Etymology: From Proto-Slavic *otava, however, the exact origin is uncertain. According to BER (following Vasmer, Trubachev), possibly a derivative of Bulgarian *товя (*tovja, “to add mass, to feed in order to make fat”) (causative of Old Church Slavonic тꙑти (tyti, “to fatten, to be fat”); cognate with Serbo-Croatian то̀вити (“to feed, to fatten”)). According to Stefan Mladenov, possibly derived or influenced by Oghur *ot (“grass”), which however is dismissed by Vasmer and Georgiev. Possibly akin to Lithuanian atólas (“aftergrass”), Latvian atãls (“aftergrass”).
