Noun [German]

IPA: /ˈfʊʁçə/ Audio: De-Furche.ogg
Etymology: From Middle High German vurch, from Old High German furh, from Proto-West Germanic *furh, from Proto-Germanic *furhs. The final -e is secondary, possibly due to confusion between the earlier strong plural Fürche and the later weak plural Furchen (also Fürchen). The -ch- is Upper German; the Central German form Fure, Fuhre did not establish itself because of its homophony with Fuhre (“cartload”).
