Numeral [Old Korean]

Forms: h [romanization]
Etymology: Sometimes connected to Middle Korean ᄀᆞᆮ (kot, “as, like”, particle). The relationship to Middle Korean ᄒᆞ낳 (hònàh, “one”) is not clear. May be related to Baekje 伽第𢀳 (*gadəp, “one”). Alexander Vovin (2010) asserts that Japanese 片 (kata) is "certainly a Korean loanword" from this word. However, Vovin's source for the Koreanic term is a document that is over 500 years newer than the first Japonic mention; it would have to be an earlier borrowing into Japanese. Etymology templates: {{ncog|okm|ᄀᆞᆮ|pos=particle|t=as, like|tr=kot}} Middle Korean ᄀᆞᆮ (kot, “as, like”, particle), {{m|okm|ᄒᆞ낳|t=one|tr=hònàh}} ᄒᆞ낳 (hònàh, “one”), {{ncog|pkc|伽第𢀳|t=one|tr=*gadəp}} Baekje 伽第𢀳 (*gadəp, “one”), {{ncog|ja|片|tr=kata}} Japanese 片 (kata) Head templates: {{head|oko|numeral|tr1=*HAton(h)|tr2=*HOton(h)}} 一等 (*HAton(h) or *HOton(h))

May be related to Baekje 伽第𢀳 (*gadəp, “one”).\nAlexander Vovin (2010) asserts that Japanese 片 (kata) is \"certainly a Korean loanword\" from this word. However, Vovin's source for the Koreanic term is a document that is over 500 years newer than the first Japonic mention; it would have to be an earlier borrowing into Japanese.",
