Etymology: From Aramaic מַרְוָא / ܡܲܪܘܵܐ (marwā, “Origanum syriacum syn. Origanum maru”), from Middle Persian [script needed] (mlc' /⁠marw⁠/), related to Sanskrit मरुव (maruva, “marjoram”). Also found in مَرْدَقُوش (mardaqūš, “marjoram”). The Aramaic has been borrowed into Ancient Greek μᾶρον (mâron) and from Ancient Greek again into Arabic as مَارُون (mārūn, “Origanum syriacum”). The stone senses, though plausibly deriving from the sense of a comminuted herb, recall Persian مروارید (marvârid, “pearl”). With this consideration مَرْو (marw, “pebble; flint; quartz”) is a doublet of مَرْجَان (marjān, “small pearls; corals”).           "text": "مَرْو: « ع » هو أنواع سبعة: منها المرماخور، وهو أجودها، وأنفعها للجوف، وأكثرها دخولاً في الأدوية. وهو نبات يرتفع من الأرض شبرًا وزيادة، وساقه خشبيّ، وعروقه قريبة من مقدار فروعه. ويتفرّع ورقه على ذلك الساق بشيء يمتد منه إلى الورقة، وكلها في الصورة قريب من قريب، وريح ورقه طيب قليلاً، وطعمه مُرّ فيه أدنى بشاعة، تخالطه مرارته، ويبرز في طرفه بِزرًا أكبر من بِزر الكَتَّان. وفي ورقه أدنى تحديد، وخضرته نحو السِّلْق والآس، وجميع أصناف الـمَرْو يُنضج الأورام الصُّلبة والدماميل والـخُراجات. وهو مصلح للمعدة الضعيفة والكبد، مزيل لضرر الرطوبات، وفساد المزاج، مذهب للرياح أكثر من كل شيء، ويزيد الضعف العارض من تسبب كثرة الأكل وكثرة شرب الماء البارد. وإذا أدمن المستسقِي اقتماح وزن درهمين في كل يوم من ورقها وبزرها، مع مثله سكرًا على الريق، جفف الماء، وأخرجه بالبول والعرق دائمًا. والمرماخور: حارّ يابس في الثالثة، ينفع من الـخَفَقان الكائن من الـمِرّة السوداء، والسُّدد التي في الرأس، نافع من أوجاع الرحم والنساء الحوامل، إذا شرب بالشراب، لا سيما إذا كانت العلة من برد. والمرو على كثرة أنواعه واختلافه ينفع المرطوبين، ومن به بلغم، مفتِّح للسُّدَد الباردة حيث كانت، ويقطر ماؤها مع اللبن للأذن الوجِعة. وشم المرماخور والإكباب على نَطوله والبخار، نافع من الصداع البارد، ويقوّي المعدة، ويفتِّح سُدَد الأحشاء، وينشف رطوبة المعدة، ويقوّي الأمعاء. « ج » هو أنواع. فمنه نوع طيب الريح، وهو المرماخور. وذكر منافعه قد تقدم. « ف » المرماخور: حشيشة. وزهرها أغبر، يميل إلى الخضرة، أجوده الحديث الطيب الرائحة. وهو حارّ في الثالثة، يابس في الثانية، يقوّي المعدة، ويفتِّح سُدَد الأحشاء. والشربة منه: درهمان.",

          "text": "مَرْو: « ع » هو أنواع سبعة: منها المرماخور، وهو أجودها، وأنفعها للجوف، وأكثرها دخولاً في الأدوية. وهو نبات يرتفع من الأرض شبرًا وزيادة، وساقه خشبيّ، وعروقه قريبة من مقدار فروعه. ويتفرّع ورقه على ذلك الساق بشيء يمتد منه إلى الورقة، وكلها في الصورة قريب من قريب، وريح ورقه طيب قليلاً، وطعمه مُرّ فيه أدنى بشاعة، تخالطه مرارته، ويبرز في طرفه بِزرًا أكبر من بِزر الكَتَّان. وفي ورقه أدنى تحديد، وخضرته نحو السِّلْق والآس، وجميع أصناف الـمَرْو يُنضج الأورام الصُّلبة والدماميل والـخُراجات. وهو مصلح للمعدة الضعيفة والكبد، مزيل لضرر الرطوبات، وفساد المزاج، مذهب للرياح أكثر من كل شيء، ويزيد الضعف العارض من تسبب كثرة الأكل وكثرة شرب الماء البارد. وإذا أدمن المستسقِي اقتماح وزن درهمين في كل يوم من ورقها وبزرها، مع مثله سكرًا على الريق، جفف الماء، وأخرجه بالبول والعرق دائمًا. والمرماخور: حارّ يابس في الثالثة، ينفع من الـخَفَقان الكائن من الـمِرّة السوداء، والسُّدد التي في الرأس، نافع من أوجاع الرحم والنساء الحوامل، إذا شرب بالشراب، لا سيما إذا كانت العلة من برد. والمرو على كثرة أنواعه واختلافه ينفع المرطوبين، ومن به بلغم، مفتِّح للسُّدَد الباردة حيث كانت، ويقطر ماؤها مع اللبن للأذن الوجِعة. وشم المرماخور والإكباب على نَطوله والبخار، نافع من الصداع البارد، ويقوّي المعدة، ويفتِّح سُدَد الأحشاء، وينشف رطوبة المعدة، ويقوّي الأمعاء. « ج » هو أنواع. فمنه نوع طيب الريح، وهو المرماخور. وذكر منافعه قد تقدم. « ف » المرماخور: حشيشة. وزهرها أغبر، يميل إلى الخضرة، أجوده الحديث الطيب الرائحة. وهو حارّ في الثالثة، يابس في الثانية، يقوّي المعدة، ويفتِّح سُدَد الأحشاء. والشربة منه: درهمان.",
