Noun

IPA: [prəvɐsˈɫavʲɪje] Audio: Ru-православие.ogg
Etymology: Calque of Ancient Greek ὀρθοδοξία (orthodoxía, “correctness in doctrine and belief”). From пра́вый (právyj, “right, correct”) + -о- (-o-) + сла́ва (sláva, “glory, glorification; (general) opinion”) + -ие (-ije). Sense 4, used by some Slavic neopagan groups, was derived from their belief that Orthodox Christianity in Russia emerged from a period where paganism and Christianity coexisted, making Slavic neopaganism the "true" Orthodoxy that supposedly preceded the Christian counterpart.
