"羽織" meaning in Japanese

See 羽織 in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: [ha̠o̞ɾʲi] Forms: 羽織 [canonical] (ruby: (), (おり)), haori [romanization]
Etymology: Etymology unclear. One theory is that the word was an alteration of はふる (hafuru, “to throw over, to throw on”). Another theory holds that the word came by extension from how a bird interlaces its wings across its back, leading to the current kanji compound of 羽 (ha, “wing”) + 織り (ori, “weaving”). Alternately, these kanji may be just ateji. Head templates: {{ja-noun|はおり}} 羽(は)織(おり) • (haori)
