Noun

IPA: /ði.ciˈɣo.ɾos/
Etymology: From Byzantine Greek, from late Hellenistic / Koine Greek, or medieval 6th century attested oblique cases (e.g. genitive δικηγόρου (dikēgórou), dative, δικηγόρῳ (dikēgórōi)), both suitable for a noun in -ήγορος or -ηγόρος. The word was lemmatized by Eustathius and at Suda as δικηγόρος (dikēgóros, “advocate”). From the ancient δίκη (díkē) + -ήγορος (-ḗgoros) from ἀγορεύω (agoreúō) with ectasis of <α> to <η> in composition (like κατήγορος (katḗgoros, “accuser”)), but with stress shift like δημηγόρος (dēmēgóros, “orator, speaker”). Diccionario Español correctly lemmatizes δικηγόρος, unlike LSJ which lemmatizes δικήγορος.
