Proper name

IPA: /bʁuːkhyːzən/ Forms: Broekhuysens [genitive], Broekhuysen [genitive, with-article]
Etymology: From Dutch broek (“swamp, meadow”) + huizen (“home”). The name combines two of the specifically Dutch spellings found only in the area between Krefeld and Kleve, namely -oe- for /uː/ and -uy- for /yː/ (cf. Boeckelt and Schaephuysen respectively).
