Noun [Albanian]

Forms: bërsi [plural], bërsia [definite], bërsitë [definite, plural]
Etymology: From Proto-Albanian *britśiā, closely related to Latin brisa (“husks of grapes”). The further origin is uncertain; perhaps also cognate to Ancient Greek βρύτεα (brútea). According to Pokorny (1:144), Latin brisa (“husks of wine”) is an Illyrian loanword. Conversely, Orel considers it a borrowing from Thracian *brūtea.
