"pasmo" meaning in Proto-Slavic

See pasmo in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

Etymology: Cognate with Latvian puõsms (“link”), formally reflecting Proto-Balto-Slavic *pṓˀsma. Endzelīns considers it a Balto-Slavic innovation. Further origin is unclear. Has been compared with: * Dutch vezel (“fibre”), German Faser (“fibre”), diminutives of an earlier Proto-West Germanic *fasō. Per Miklošič, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pes- (“to bulge”). * Proto-Indo-Iranian *páćšma (“filament”), Proto-Germanic *fahsą (“hair”), from Proto-Indo-European *peḱ- (“to pluck”). Neither of these theories explains the acute in Balto-Slavic. "etymology_text": "Cognate with Latvian puõsms (“link”), formally reflecting Proto-Balto-Slavic *pṓˀsma. Endzelīns considers it a Balto-Slavic innovation.\nFurther origin is unclear. Has been compared with:\n* Dutch vezel (“fibre”), German Faser (“fibre”), diminutives of an earlier Proto-West Germanic *fasō. Per Miklošič, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pes- (“to bulge”).\n* Proto-Indo-Iranian *páćšma (“filament”), Proto-Germanic *fahsą (“hair”), from Proto-Indo-European *peḱ- (“to pluck”).\nNeither of these theories explains the acute in Balto-Slavic.",
