Verb

IPA: /ˈhue̯len/, [ˈhuə̯.lən]
Etymology: From Middle High German holen, from Old High German holōn. Cognate with German holen (“to fetch”). Old High German neman (“to take”, cf. German nehmen, Dutch nemen) has been lost in Luxembourgish as well as most dialects of Moselle Franconian. The conjugated forms with a short vowel must be due to early contraction. The unetymological umlaut in the present tense is found throughout Central Franconian. The loss of final -t in the past participle is more recent; the older form geholt is still heard locally.
