"spalva" meaning in Lithuanian

See spalva in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: [spɐlˈvɐ]
Etymology: From Proto-Balto-Slavic *spalwā, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)p(h)el- (“to split, cast off”), with a w extension. Alternatively, *spalu- may simply have been a u-stem noun, later transformed into an ā-stem noun: *spalu-ā- > *spalvā-. The original meaning was probably “that which was torn off, plucked, shorn.” Cognates include Latvian spalva (“feather, fur”), Nareva Baltic spiła; the “color” meaning is a secondary development, from “feather, fur.” Etymology templates: {{der|lt|ine-bsl-pro|*spalwā}} Proto-Balto-Slavic *spalwā, {{der|lt|ine-pro|*(s)p(h)el-||to split, cast off}} Proto-Indo-European *(s)p(h)el- (“to split, cast off”), {{cog|lv|spalva||feather, fur}} Latvian spalva (“feather, fur”) Head templates: {{head|lt|nouns|||plural|spal̃vos||{{{f}}}||{{{m}}}|g=f|g2=|head=spalvà}} spalvà f (plural spal̃vos), {{lt-noun|f|spalvos|4|pl=spal̃vos|sg=spalvà}} spalvà f (plural spal̃vos) stress pattern 4 Inflection templates: {{lt-decl-noun|spalvà|spal̃vos|spalvõs|spalvų̃|spal̃vai|spalvóms|spal̃vą|spalvàs|spalvà|spalvomìs|spalvojè|spalvosè|spal̃va|spal̃vos}} Forms: spalvà [canonical, feminine, stress-pattern-4], spal̃vos [plural], no-table-tags [table-tags], spalvà [nominative, singular], spal̃vos [nominative, plural], spalvõs [genitive, singular], spalvų̃ [genitive, plural], spal̃vai [dative, singular], spalvóms [dative, plural], spal̃vą [accusative, singular], spalvàs [accusative, plural], spalvà [instrumental, singular], spalvomìs [instrumental, plural], spalvojè [locative, singular], spalvosè [locative, plural], spal̃va [singular, vocative], spal̃vos [plural, vocative]
