Noun

IPA: [dāīlɛ] Audio: lv-riga-daile.ogg
Etymology: A word coined from daiļš (“beautiful”) + -e by Atis Kronvalds in 1868, following the model of Lithuanian dailė (“art”). Kronvalds proposed a number of other derivations from daiļš, of which only daile was retained in the (poetic) literary language, not with his intended basic meaning, “art” (which is usually māksla), but rather “beauty.” Etymology templates: {{suffix|lv|daiļš|e|gloss1=beautiful}} daiļš (“beautiful”) + -e, {{coin|lv|Atis Kronvalds|in=1868|notext=1}} Atis Kronvalds in 1868, {{cog|lt|dailė||art}} Lithuanian dailė (“art”) Head templates: {{head|lv|noun|g=f|g2=|head=|sort=}} daile f, {{lv-noun|f|5th}} daile f (5th declension) Inflection templates: {{lv-decl-noun|dai|e|5th|no-pl|l|ļ}}, {{lv-decl-noun-5|dai|e|4=no-pl|5=l|6=ļ|7=|8=|drop-v=|keep-s=|x=0}}, {{lv-decl-noun-table|daile|-|daili|-|dailes|-|dailei|-|daili|-|dailē|-|daile|-|type=5th declension|x=0}} Forms: declension-5 [table-tags], daile [nominative, singular], - [nominative, plural], daili [accusative, singular], - [accusative, plural], dailes [genitive, singular], - [genitive, plural], dailei [dative, singular], - [dative, plural], daili [instrumental, singular], - [instrumental, plural], dailē [locative, singular], - [locative, plural], daile [singular, vocative], - [plural, vocative]
