Noun

IPA: [ko̞d͡ʑa̠ŋ] [SK-Standard, Seoul] Forms: gojang [romanization]
Etymology: This term is not attested in pre-twentieth century documents. The Pyongan dialect form 고당 (godang) implies original *고댱, given the regular eighteenth- and nineteenth-century sound shift of /tj/ > /t/ in Pyongan and /tj/ > /t͡ɕ/ elsewhere. Hence perhaps a nativisation of the Sino-Korean term 고장 (古場, gojang, “old place; hometown”), whose original Sino-Korean reading was indeed 고댱. Etymology templates: {{m|ko|고당}} 고당 (godang), {{lang|ko|*고댱}} *고댱, {{IPAfont|/tj/ > /t/}} /tj/ > /t/, {{IPAfont|/tj/ > /t͡ɕ/}} /tj/ > /t͡ɕ/, {{l|en|Sino-Korean}} Sino-Korean, {{ko-l|고장|古場|old place; hometown}} 고장 (古場, gojang, “old place; hometown”), {{ko-etym-nativised|고장|古場|old place; hometown|nocap=y|nodot=y}} nativisation of the Sino-Korean term 고장 (古場, gojang, “old place; hometown”), {{lang|ko|고댱}} 고댱 Head templates: {{ko-noun}} 고장 • (gojang)
