Noun

IPA: [sʲi.ˈkæ]
Etymology: According to Starostin et al., from Proto-Turkic *čeke (“temple; cheekbone”). However, the Chuvash term appears to have been borrowed from Tatar, and then this archetype seems to be a rather late development. Note there are no attested forms in Old Turkic documents or Siberian Turkic languages. Cognate with Tatar чигә (çigä, “temple”), Kazakh шеке (şeke, “temple”), Kyrgyz чеке (ceke, “temple; forehead”), Kumyk чеке (çeke, “temple”), Uzbek chakka (“temple”), Uyghur چېكە (chëke, “temple”), Turkmen çekge (“temple, skull”), Chuvash чикĕ (čikĕ, “temple”), etc.
