"τίτανος" meaning in Ancient Greek

See τίτανος in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: /tí.ta.nos/, /ˈti.ta.nos/, /ˈti.ta.nos/, /tí.ta.nos/ (note: 5ᵗʰ BCE Attic), /ˈti.ta.nos/ (note: 1ˢᵗ CE Egyptian), /ˈti.ta.nos/ (note: 4ᵗʰ CE Koine), /ˈti.ta.nos/ (note: 10ᵗʰ CE Byzantine), /ˈti.ta.nos/ (note: 15ᵗʰ CE Constantinopolitan)
Etymology: Like most expressions for "chalk", the word must be a loan. A different hypothesis is offered by Reichelt, who connects Sanskrit श्वित्न (śvitna, “whitish”) and κίττανος (kíttanos, “dusty chalk”), as well as the toponyms Τιτάνη (Titánē) and Πιτάνη (Pitánē). However, given the variation ε/ι, the word is probably Pre-Greek.
