Noun

IPA: /uː.ra.nós/, /u.raˈnos/, /u.raˈnos/, /uː.ra.nós/ (note: 5ᵗʰ BCE Attic), /u.raˈnos/ (note: 1ˢᵗ CE Egyptian), /u.raˈnos/ (note: 4ᵗʰ CE Koine), /u.raˈnos/ (note: 10ᵗʰ CE Byzantine), /u.raˈnos/ (note: 15ᵗʰ CE Constantinopolitan)
Etymology: Perhaps from an older *ϝορσανός (*worsanós), which may be related to Proto-Indo-European *h₁worseye-, from *h₁wers- (“rain”) (compare Sanskrit वर्षति (varṣati, “it rains”). Considering the above supposition it could also come from *h₁wer- (“broad”). Thus somewhat cognate with Sanskrit वरुण (váruṇa, “sea god”) and अर्णव (arṇava, “ocean”). A folk etymology advanced by Aristotle interpreted it as ὅρος (hóros, “limit”) and ἄνω (ánō, “up”). Thus somewhat cognate with Sanskrit वरुण (váruṇa, “sea god”) and अर्णव (arṇava, “ocean”).\nA folk etymology advanced by Aristotle interpreted it as ὅρος (hóros, “limit”) and ἄνω (ánō, “up”).",
