Noun [Proto-Celtic]

Etymology: From Proto-Indo-European *h₂wos-tos, from *h₂wes- (“to dwell”). Related to *woseti (“to spend the night”) and *westā (“staying the night”). Matasović, opting for a derivation from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wóstu (more specifically, the alternative reconstruction *wéh₂stu), reconstructs *wastu. His derivation suffers greatly from the fact that no evidence of u-stem inflection exists in Celtic.
