Noun [Galician]

IPA: [liˈtejɾɐ] Forms: liteiras [plural]
Etymology: In the sense given below, seemingly borrowed from Catalan llitera or French litière, both from Late Latin lectuāria (“bedding”). Compare the synonymous Spanish litera, also borrowed from Gallo-Romance. There also existed, however, a liteira (“bedding”) in thirteenth-century Old Galician-Portuguese, which might represent a direct inheritance of the Late Latin lectuāria.
