Noun [Lithuanian]

IPA: /ˈkɐŋʲkʲlʲeːs/
Etymology: Inherited from Old Lithuanian kañklės. Further etymology is unclear, probably derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kankl- < *kantl-, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *keh₂n- (“to sing”), compare similar Proto-Celtic *kantlom, however, initial vowel doesn't match; because of that Smoczyński suggests non-Indo-European origin. Relation with Proto-Finnic *kandël is unclear. Cognate with Latvian kuõkle (kuõkles pl), kùokle (kùokles pl), Samogitian konklē. "etymology_text": "Inherited from Old Lithuanian kañklės. Further etymology is unclear, probably derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic *kankl- < *kantl-, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *keh₂n- (“to sing”), compare similar Proto-Celtic *kantlom, however, initial vowel doesn't match; because of that Smoczyński suggests non-Indo-European origin. Relation with Proto-Finnic *kandël is unclear.\nCognate with Latvian kuõkle (kuõkles pl), kùokle (kùokles pl), Samogitian konklē.",
