Noun [Mongolian]

Forms: gür xan [romanization]
Etymology: Found in Middle Mongol of the Secret History as [script needed] (gür qa), and attested earlier as a Kara-Khitan title. In Khitan attested only as a collocation [script needed] (g.úr en qa, “khan of (a) state”), it is uncertain if the first element, preserved in Manchu as ᡤᡠᡵᡠᠨ (gurun, “state, dynasty”), represents a loan into гүр (gür) or common Mongolic inheritance.
