Noun

IPA: /simahˈor/ Forms: simahor [plural], simahori [definite], simahorët [definite, plural]
Etymology: Northern Gheg word, which Gustav Meyer does not have in his etymological dictionary; first given by the dictionary "Bashkimi", as "compagno d'armi, compagno d'azione di rappresaglia"; Shtjefën Gjeçovi in the "Kanuni i Lekë Dukagjinit", p. 77, 83 explains it in more detail. According to Norbert Jokl (Indo-Germanische Forschungen 44, 61v) it is an expansion with -uer, -ori, and semantically with a specialization (pejoratively) of the meaning, of the Greek σύμμαχος "fellow soldier, comrade in arms". The word is of the Byzantine administration; the preservation of the initial "s" shows that it entered in the Albanian language after the 11th century. From Greek σύμμαχος.
