Noun

IPA: /maˈɾacç/ Forms: maraqi [definite]
Etymology: Unclear. It could be a borrowing from a South Slavic language, compare Serbo-Croatian morač (Svane). According to Çabej, it derives from Latin amaracus (“marjoram”). Another possibility is a borrowing from Vulgar Latin *marathrium, *marathricum, from Latin marathrum. See also Romanian mărar.
