"oni-" meaning in Yoruba

See oni- in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Prefix

IPA: /ō.nĩ́/ Forms: oní- [canonical]
Etymology: From o- (“nominalizing prefix”) + ní (“to have; to own”). The "o" prefix harmonizes with the initial vowel associated with the noun it precedes. Since /n/ and /l/ are allophonic in Yoruba, the prefix often changes to an /l/ when in compounds. However, it always remains an /n/ in Southeastern Yoruba dialects, while it always remains an /l/ in Central Yoruba dialects like Ekiti and in the Egba dialect. Etymology templates: {{af|yo|o-|ní|id1=nominalizing prefix|t1=nominalizing prefix|t2=to have; to own}} o- (“nominalizing prefix”) + ní (“to have; to own”) Head templates: {{head|yo|prefix|head=oní-|head2=}} oní-, {{yo-pos|prefix|oní-}} oní-
  1. a prefix (added to nouns to detail ownership or association to the noun) Tags: morpheme Synonyms: abi-, olí-, lí- (Ondo)
