Noun

IPA: /hai̯t/ [Clay], /hɛi̯t/ [Wood] Forms: heiten [plural], heitsje [diminutive]
Etymology: A former term of endearment which has widely displaced faar, just as mem (“mother”) has displaced moer. Cognate with North Frisian aatj (“father”), most likely from Proto-Germanic *attô, whence also Gothic 𐌰𐍄𐍄𐌰 (atta). The h- would appear to be prothetic; compare the variant deite, which is further comparable to East Frisian Low German Tatte, English dad, etc. Etymology templates: {{cog|frr|aatj|t=father}} North Frisian aatj (“father”), {{inh|fy|gem-pro|*attô}} Proto-Germanic *attô, {{cog|got|𐌰𐍄𐍄𐌰}} Gothic 𐌰𐍄𐍄𐌰 (atta), {{cog|nds|Tatte}} Low German Tatte, {{cog|en|dad}} English dad Head templates: {{head|fy|nouns|||plural|heiten||{{{pl2}}}||{{{pl3}}}|||diminutive|heitsje||{{{dim2}}}||{{{dim3}}}|f2accel-form=p|f2request=1|f6accel-form=diminutive|g=c|g2=|g3=|head=}} heit c (plural heiten, diminutive heitsje), {{fy-noun|c|heiten|heitsje}} heit c (plural heiten, diminutive heitsje)
