Suffix

Etymology: Aikio and Ylikoski (2016) proposes that the prolative ending, which they reconstruct as *-iccek (the form attested in Finnish), is in fact a contraction of a Finno-Samic postposition *śüδik (with a cognate in Proto-Samic *čëδëk, and from the same stem as *śüdäme with a lative ending), through the development *-n śüδik (*-n is the genitive ending) > *-ńśüik > *-ńćik (> (Late) Proto-Finnic *-iccek). Alternatively possibly from the oblique stem *-icce- of *-inën.
