Found in Ugaritic 𐎋𐎄𐎐𐎚 (kdnt, “she-mule”), also passed into Aramaic כוֹדְנָא / ܟܽܘܕܢܳܐ (kōḏnā) / כוֹדַנֽיָא / ܟܽܘܕܰܢܝܳܐ (kōḏanyā, “mule”), already Palmyrene Aramaic and Imperial Aramaic, and Arabic كَوْدَن (kawdan, “a beast of burden, particularly a mule or hinny”), and lastly also present in Middle Persian [script needed] (kōtīna) as the name of a beast of burden, a typical Persian variation as in پودنه (pudene) and related forms.",
