"արշալուրշ" meaning in Old Armenian

Noun

Forms: aršalurš [romanization]
Etymology: From *արշալուրջ (*aršalurǰ). The second part is լուրջ (lurǰ, “half-dark”). The first part is probably an Iranian borrowing; compare Avestan 𐬀𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬱𐬀 (aᵘruša, “white”), Sanskrit अरुष (aruṣá, “reddish, light red, glowing, fire-coloured”) and the Old Armenian loanword Արուսեակ (Aruseak). Alternatively, the first part is from արջն (arǰn, “black; dark”). The forms ending in -լոյս (-loys) were modified folk-etymologically under the influence of լոյս (loys).
