"koonker" meaning in North Frisian

Noun

Forms: koonkern [plural]
Etymology: Related with regional German Kanker (“arachnid”, especially “harvestman”). It suggests itself to derive the word from Proto-West Germanic *kankr (“crab”), particularly since the movement of harvestmen looks somewhat similar to that of crabs. In this process the term may, however, have absorbed older words derived from *gangan (“to walk”). Moreover, dialectal Swedish kångro (“spider”) has also been linked with Finnish kankuri (“weaver”); compare German Weberknecht (“harvestman”).
