Rix posits, albeit uncertainly, the root *bʰelḱ-, from which a form *bʰl̥ḱ-yé-ti may have emerged, whence fulciō. However, the only other evidence for such a root is Ancient Greek φάλκης (phálkēs), which Beekes considers to be of Pre-Greek origin.",
