Proper name

IPA: [ruːˈmiː.na] [Classical-Latin], [rʊˈmiː.na] [Classical-Latin], [ruˈmiː.na] (note: modern Italianate Ecclesiastical), [ˈruː.mɪ.na] [Classical-Latin], [ˈruː.mi.na] (note: modern Italianate Ecclesiastical)
Etymology: Seemingly from rū̆mis (“teat, nipple, breast”) + -īna, i.e. the feminine of Rū̆mīnus. The form seems to have been affected by analogy. As the tree named after the goddess (the Ficus Ruminalis) was associated with Romulus and Remus, the name was supposed in ancient times to be derived from a form like Rōmula (see Rōma). Another potential source of influence would be rūmen (“throat”). Etymology templates: {{suffix|la|rū̆ma|-īna|alt1=rū̆mis|t1=teat, nipple, breast}} rū̆mis (“teat, nipple, breast”) + -īna Head templates: {{la-proper noun|Rū̆mī̆na<1>|g=f}} Rū̆mī̆na f sg (genitive Rū̆mī̆nae); first declension Inflection templates: {{la-ndecl|Rū̆mī̆na<1>}} Forms: Rū̆mī̆na [canonical, feminine, singular], Rū̆mī̆nae [genitive], no-table-tags [table-tags], Rū̆mī̆na [nominative, singular], Rū̆mī̆nae [genitive, singular], Rū̆mī̆nae [dative, singular], Rū̆mī̆nam [accusative, singular], Rū̆mī̆nā [ablative, singular], Rū̆mī̆na [singular, vocative], Rūmia [alternative]
