Noun

IPA: [kɯɾima̠] [SK-Standard, Seoul] Forms: geurima [romanization]
Etymology: First attested in the Yeogeo yuhae (譯語類解 / 역어유해), 1690, as Early Modern Korean 그리매 (Yale: kulimay). Original meaning: "earwig". Displaced 지차리 (Yale: cichali), the original word for "house centipede". The Middle Korean word for "earwig" was the longer 그르메〮너흐〮리〮 (Yale: kùlùméynèhúlí), compound of 그르메〮 (Yale: kùlùméy, “shadow; shaded place”) + unknown element *nèhúlí. The second element appears to have been dropped.
