"оаз" meaning in Ingush

Noun

IPA: /ˈɔ̯az/ Forms: оаз class jj [canonical], oaz [romanization]
Etymology: Borrowed from Kumyk аваз (awaz, “sound, noise; voice”). Cognates include Chechen а̄з (aaz). Starostin and Nikolaev reconstruct the Proto-Nakh form, comparing it, for example, with the Lak чӏу (čʼu, “voice, sound”), Dargwa чӏа (č̣a, “id.”) and Lezgi чӏал (č̣al, “language”). However, according to the observations of J. Nichols, the Proto-Nakh *c̣ and *ʒ in Ingush are pronounced at the end of a form as /d͡z/, whereas the pronunciation as /z/ should be considered a borrowing. See also ӏаж (ˀaž, “apple”).
