Adjective

IPA: /ˈpas.ti/
Etymology: Inherited from Malay pasti, a back-formation from memestikan, (cognate of Javanese ꦩꦼꦱ꧀ꦛꦶ (mesthi)), probably from Old Javanese muṣṭi, from Sanskrit मुष्टि (muṣṭi, “fist, clenched hand”). The vowel shift to /a/ is probably a result of hypercorrection. Doublet of mesti.
