Proper name

IPA: /buˈluŋan/ [Standard-Indonesian], [buˈlu.ŋan] [Standard-Indonesian]
Rhymes: -uŋan Etymology: From earlier spellings Bulongan and Bolongan (both became archaic as of 1970s), from Bolongan bulu tengon (“really a bamboo”). The name itself originated from local legend revolving around Kuwanyi, a tribal chief of Hupan (or Kayan) Dayaks, who found a bamboo and an egg on a woody stump, while he went hunting. The spelling Bulongan was the original one used in documents such as Emergency Law No. 3/1953 and Law No. 27/1959, but this has been disused from Government Regulation No. 47 of 1981 onwards (it's not exactly known when the regency renamed itself).
