Proper name

Etymology: (Churchill Falls): McLean+waterfall (“falls”). Named in honour of John McLean, explorer for the Hudson's Bay Company, who was the first white man to see the falls in the 1820s. McLean himself would name the falls Grand Falls, after the river it is situated on, the Grand River. Others would call it McLean Falls, after its discoverer, especially afterwards as the river itself would be renamed Hamilton River.
