Etymology: From the assumption (by T. F. O'Rahilly) that this was the language of the Iverni. In the 9th century Sanas Cormaic it is called Iarnnbērlæ (modern Irish Iarmbélre), where the first element Iarnn- is taken to mean "iron" but may have originally been related to Iverni.
