Noun

IPA: /kyr/, [kyːr] Audio: Nl-kuur.ogg Forms: kuren [plural], kuurtje [diminutive, neuter]
Rhymes: -yr Etymology: Attested since the 17th century. Probably the same word as in etymology 1 above. It has been explained in two ways: (1) from the sense “ailment”, which Middle Dutch cure developed (14th c.) by transfer from the treatment to that which is treated; (2) from the sense “skill, trick” (16th c.). In the latter case it may be based on the often bizarre prescriptions of pre-modern doctors.
