"bruiloft" meaning in Dutch

See bruiloft in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: /ˈbrœy̯.lɔft/ Audio: Nl-bruiloft.ogg Forms: bruiloften [plural], bruiloftje [diminutive, neuter]
Etymology: From Middle Dutch bruloft, brulocht. The first element is bruid; -loft is a derivation from the root of lopen (“to walk”) with a dental suffix (compare rucht). The original meaning would thus have been "bride-walk" or perhaps "bride-dance", "bride-leap" or even "bride-abduction" (see *hlaupaną and confer the etymology at Brautlauf). Cognates include German Brautlauf, Old Norse brúðhlaup (Swedish bröllop).
