"κύμβαλον" meaning in Ancient Greek

See κύμβαλον in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: /kým.ba.lon/, /ˈcym.ba.lon/, /ˈcim.ba.lon/, /kým.ba.lon/ (note: 5ᵗʰ BCE Attic), /ˈkym.ba.lon/ (note: 1ˢᵗ CE Egyptian), /ˈcym.ba.lon/ (note: 4ᵗʰ CE Koine), /ˈcym.ba.lon/ (note: 10ᵗʰ CE Byzantine), /ˈcim.ba.lon/ (note: 15ᵗʰ CE Constantinopolitan)
Etymology: From κύμβη (kúmbē, “hollow of a vessel”), with a suffix -αλον which is found also in κρόταλον (krótalon, “rattle”). Yakubovich suggested a derivation from Hittite [script needed] (ḫuḫupal, “kind of musical instrument, perhaps a lute or a drum”); however, the unexplained dereduplication, the -μβ- instead of -β- and the still unclear meaning of the Hittite word exclude this proposal.
