Preposition [Proto-Balto-Slavic]

Etymology: Of disputed origin. Often derived from a Proto-Indo-European *ups, from *upó (“under, below”), and connected to Old Norse upp (“up”). This is formally acceptable for the Slavic forms, via the regular loss of the labial stop p and sandhi variation with *z; however, the Baltic forms cannot descend from this form.
