Noun [Lithuanian]

Etymology: Cognate with Latvian ciska (“thigh”). More information * One hypothesis links this to Sanskrit किष्कु (kiṣku, “forearm”), but this has difficulties. * Another hypothesis links this to Proto-Indo-European *koḱs- (“joint”), e.g. Sanskrit कक्ष (kakṣa, “armpit”), Latin coxa (“hip”). ** Fraenkel suggests (and Derksen concurs) that the vowel -i- is due to influence from kìnka (“thigh, haunch”). ** Endzelīns suggests that *kš metathesized to šk. Derksen disagrees and claims PIE *ḱs yields š in Lithuanian, and that the final -ka is due to influence from other words, such as kìnka Etymology templates: {{cog|lv|ciska|t=thigh}} Latvian ciska (“thigh”), {{noncog|sa|किष्कु|t=forearm}} Sanskrit किष्कु (kiṣku, “forearm”), {{der|lt|ine-pro|*koḱs-|t=joint}} Proto-Indo-European *koḱs- (“joint”), {{cog|sa|कक्ष|t=armpit}} Sanskrit कक्ष (kakṣa, “armpit”), {{cog|la|coxa|t=hip}} Latin coxa (“hip”) Head templates: {{head|lt|nouns|||plural|kìškos||{{{f}}}||{{{m}}}|g=f|g2=|head=kiškà}} kiškà f (plural kìškos), {{lt-noun|f|kìškos|2|head=kiškà}} kiškà f (plural kìškos) stress pattern 2 Inflection templates: {{lt-decl-noun|kiškà|kìškos|kìškos|kìškų|kìškai|kìškoms|kìšką|kiškàs|kiškà|kìškomis|kìškoje|kìškose|kìška|kìškos}} Forms: kiškà [canonical, feminine, stress-pattern-2], kìškos [plural], no-table-tags [table-tags], kiškà [nominative, singular], kìškos [nominative, plural], kìškos [genitive, singular], kìškų [genitive, plural], kìškai [dative, singular], kìškoms [dative, plural], kìšką [accusative, singular], kiškàs [accusative, plural], kiškà [instrumental, singular], kìškomis [instrumental, plural], kìškoje [locative, singular], kìškose [locative, plural], kìška [singular, vocative], kìškos [plural, vocative]
