Noun [Middle Persian]

Etymology: From hl (xar, “donkey, ass”) + bwc (buz, “goat”). Akin to Manichaean Middle Persian xrbwz (xarbuz). Compare Iranian borrowings Old Armenian խարբուզ (xarbuz) and Old Georgian ხარაბუზი (xarabuzi), and also Classical Syriac ܥܙܝ ܚܡܪ (ʿezzay ḥemār), which is a calque of the Middle Persian word.
