Noun [Romanian]

Etymology: Unknown. The most common etymology given is a derivation from Latin fibula (“buckle”), although this presents some phonetic and semantic difficulties (perhaps the meaning developed from the idea of a clasp or buckle holding or fixing onto something). Cf. the variant forms, and also the possibly related fiulare. It may alternatively simply be an expressive formation.
