Etymology: Variant of Kingsburgh, from Kings + -burgh, emended from earlier Kingsbury, named for the nearby Kings River, a calque of Spanish Rio de los Santos Reyes (“River of the Holy Kings”), named in honor of the Three Wise Men of the stories of the Nativity of Jesus because of its first recorded European discovery by members of Gabriel Moraga's expedition on 6 January 1806, the day of the feast of the Epiphany.
