"ἥμισσον" meaning in All languages combined

Noun [Ancient Greek]

Etymology: A parallel formation to ἥμῐσυς (hḗmisus, “half”, adjective). Usually seen as reflecting Proto-Indo-European *sēmi-tw-om, a thematisation of the tu-stem ἥμισυς (hḗmisus), there is however contradictory evidence for -σσ- (-ss-) being the regular Doric outcome of medial *-tw-. Compare Albanian gjysmë.
